Elizabeth Edwards, Singer & Songwriter

I first met Elizabeth Edwards, an amazing singer and songwriter, at a gala benefit celebrating recovery – fancy hotel, fancy food, fancy clothes and no-bullshit conversation.

We ended up seated next to each other and it was a highlight of the evening!

We talked about everything from recovery to passion and purpose and love with lots of emphatic nodding and laughter.

I was intrigued by her story of having had a calling when she was young and walking away from it and even resisting it in sobriety. I wanted all the details…especially how she returned to honor it seven years into recovery. Continue reading

Your Recovered Life Series with Ro Rowan, Musician

Ro Rowan, Musician

I’m so excited to share this powerful conversation with the incomparable Ro Rowan as the next installment of Your Recovered Life Series: True Stories From The Future.

Ro is a gifted cellist, songwriter, composer, photographer and videographer.

She’s the quintuple threat 😉

She’s currently rocking her dream at the Berklee School of Music in Boston where she is enjoying huge success, performing with and for a who’s who of the music industry and winning more accolades and scholarships than I can list here. (Go here to read more or see her official bio below…)

And oh yeah, she’s REALLY happy!

Along the way to owning her calling she was a collegiate athlete, worked as a video editor and was the owner of her own fitness business.

I had the opportunity to hear her story and was inspired by her honesty, passion and willingness to walk through the fear in order to live a life of connection, authenticity and joy.

Your Recovered Life Series with Robyn Cruze, Author

Robyn Cruze, Author

I am thrilled to share an inspiring conversation with Robyn Cruze, a trailblazer in the world of eating disorder recovery and co-author of Making Peace with Your Plate: Eating Disorder Recovery.

We had a chance meeting at the Barnes and Noble on the 3rd Street Promenade when I was chaperoning my son’s field trip. In the calm of the storm when the kids were being read a story I told her about this project and she immediately raised her hand to share her story. It is one of persistence, courage and hope. :)

Your Recovered Life Series with Ellie Schoenberger, Recovery Advocate

Ellie Schoenberger, Recovery Advocate

HERE IT IS!

The first conversation for Your Recovered Life Series: True Stories from the Future is with the inspiring and inimitable Ellie Schoenberger.

Ellie wears many hats (see bio below) but I think of her most as a woman who takes a stand for bringing alcoholism and recovery out of the shadows – Letting us know that recovery is not only possible but phenomenal and that no matter where you are in the process, you are not alone.

I have admired her work from afar for years and personally known many women whose lives she has touched with her advocacy for telling the truth and taking the shame and stigma out of our addictions. I was thrilled to talk to her for this project and am now honored to call her a friend.

91 Seconds of YES!!

I’ve been thinking about what happens after you’ve got your recovery on track…and what I stand for here at ‘Your Recovered Life.’

If you’re wondering if there’s more and if it’s okay to ask if there’s more?

Here’s my answer.

Consider it an invitation.

What Do You Deserve?

Recently, I was working with a client*, who was looking to bust a move – she wants change. She has a job she loves, amazing family and friends and contributes to those around her in a big way. AND she wants more money, more abundance, and more freedom.

We started exploring what that would look like. She recalled a period when she had nothing. It was the happiest time of her life.

I could hear it in her voice – the purity of that time.

Then I got one of those intuitive hits – and something felt off – I wondered if there was some sort of disconnect – or subconscious denial of self of having this life of wealth and abundance. After all, if she was the happiest when she had nothing, would having ‘it all’ mean that she would be unhappy?

So we dug a little deeper. What was holding her back from this life she so wanted? We were quiet and waited and then she heard the voice…“You don’t deserve it.” She nearly gasped.

Wow. Whose voice is that? Da-da-da-dum…cue the scary music. Continue reading

Get This Show on The Road

Guest post by my Let’s-cut-the-BS Self:

I hereby grant Courtney Webster full permission to write whatever the hell she wants on this blog. I have heard her concerns about a distinct ‘voice’ with a consistent ‘theme’ or whatever other well-meaning suggestions/rules/BS she is hiding behind. Hasn’t she listened to herself?

Just. F**king. Write. It.

Listen, honey, the idea is to share what happens when you go for the life you love. A life that is bold and daring and courageous. Remember? A life beyond your wildest dreams? This is your life and your voice. Sure you are exposed but who cares? It’s just a blog!! And it’s part of this life experiment so whoever reads it gets to see what that looks like…so cut the BS and go for it! Stop taking yourself so seriously! Experiment! Have fun!! Write what you like! Share some cool stuff. Let’s see some songs and videos! Post your sweet heart out! See what happens…

Pep talk and ass-kicking over. I see my ride coming. Gotta go…

What permission do you want to grant yourself? Would love to hear about it!

Just F**king Do It!

Am I going to let my gang of gremlins keep me cowering in a beige corner or am I going to make some bold choices, paint some walls and get on with life?

It sounds very serious, doesn’t it?

After 23 years of almond and white walled apartment dwelling, I’m now a homeowner.

Before moving in I want it painted. I love the idea of color in every room AND I’m all twisted up about making disastrous choices.

My head is busy. There are a few conversations going on at once. Shall we listen in? Continue reading
